ABSTRACT: This paper has examined the main effects of an extreme positive condition of the Antarctic sea ice on the Southern Hemisphere climate. The analyses were based on two numerical experiments designed with the CM2-GFDL Coupled Model where the sea ice condition was imposed in different ways, as initial and boundary conditions. In general, the imposition of the maximum sea-ice has cooled the southern atmosphere, which triggered an increase in the meridional temperature gradient, affecting the intensity of the polar jet, the vertical heat fluxes and the kinetic energy.
